UPDATE: Registration now open for Color Me Rad (promo code)

Did you miss Color Me Rad last year and are interested in participating in one of the largest races in the Chattahoochee Valley?

Well, we have some good news for you.

Registration for the second Color Me Rad race to hit Columbus began Jan. 1. All wave times are available for the March 15 race which is set to begin at 9 a.m. Click here to register. If you enter the Printable Coupons "UPTOWN" (with no quotation marks), you will receive a discount.

Registration for the race, which will again be held at the Woodruff Riverfront Park, is $29 through Friday. The prices will escalate over time, according to Elizabeth Hurt, vice president of community relations and marketing at Uptown Columbus Inc.

"The earlier you register the more affordable it is," Hurst said.

Part of the proceeds will go to benefit the Children's Miracle Network. Hurst said the event was one of Uptown's biggest fundraisers for 2013.

Last year, approximately 4,400 participated in the color-bombing race. Hurst said Thursday they're hoping that number will grow. It's not a timed event and kids ages 7 and under are free to participate.

The course will be the same as last year's, beginning on Bay Avenue and driving through Broadway. Uptown is hoping to add some music to the course, but that hasn't been finalized, Hurst said.

It was quite a scene in downtown Columbus last March. The setup included a large stage with Color Me Rad representatives pushing the crowd for live stunts in efforts to have more color bombs explode and gun squirted.

If you'd like to volunteer, contact Hurst at ehurst@uptowncolumbusga.com. You must be 16 or older to help. Volunteer opportunities include assisting with registering, the color-bomb squads, water stations and more.

If you're looking for races that are timed, many of those will pick back up around mid-February, although the Super Bowl run usually attracts a decent crowd.

Some fun 5Ks to mark on your calendar include: the Valentine's Day race (Feb. 15), the Mardi Gras Madness (March 1), and the Highland Mud Run (May 1). These are just a few. In a few weeks, there will likely be timed runs nearly every Saturday. Be sure to pick up our To Do section that runs in every Thursday paper for up-to-date information concerning these activities.
